La'Tevin Alexander Ellis, an acting apprentice in our 2014/15 company has dug in to his role at The Playhouse -- check out more about him, below, and say hello at the shows!
"I am La' Tevin Alexander, hailing from the small but lovely city of Perry, FL. At age 5, I had dreams of becoming the next legendary athlete. However, I soon had my “a-ha” moment in being an actor during the last month of my senior year of high school. I filmed an independent film in Tarpon Springs, Florida, and onset I met some professionals who encouraged me to study the art more extensively, which I did. So in August of 2010, I enrolled at the #1 HBCU in the nation, Florida A&M University, where I majored in Theatre. In May 2014, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree.
My favorite role to date occurred during my sophomore year when I played the role of Purlie from the comedy Purlie Victorious. This is my favorite so far because the character Purlie is so energetic and free-spirited that I had a lot of things to play with. It also compelled me to grow as an actor because it was my first lead. The character Purlie is my favorite because he reminded me of two of three men I admire, El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, aka Malcolm X, and the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey. The third man who I admire is Robert Nesta Marley, better known as Bob Marley. Outside of theatre I study history, which is the one thing all three men whom I admire preached that we should put forth an effort to learn. I also am a serious athlete, I sing to lift my spirits or just to pass the time, and I am constantly exercising my abilities as a social activist and humanitarian.
I am mostly looking forward to expanding my range as an actor while here in the Apprenticeship. I want to learn more techniques and work with knowledgeable and experience artists to help improve my talent. I will also look to have some of my own work read and hopefully staged.
My shameless brag is that I am almost God-like with my hands. I excel at just about all things that have to do with using my hands. Question me more in person about this peeps! At this current moment I listening to What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts."
Thanks, Tevin! Glad to have you on the team!
