Hi Portland! Here I am at the URTAs (Unified Regional Theatre Auditions) in New York City, auditioning young actors, designers, directors, and stage managers to find next year's 2015-2016 Apprentice Company.
Today, I've already witnessed FIFTY acting auditions, with more to come! So far, I've called back ten actors and interviewed five designers. These candidates hail from all over the United States. I'm excited to bring a competitive, talented group of new apprentices to the Portland Playhouse for our next season. My butt is sore from sitting and witnessing, but my mind is expanded at the depth of talent.
Tomorrow marks the beginning of the director and stage management interviews. It's a full day of conversation. I've been busy reviewing portfolios, looking through resumes, and researching schools online. I'm excited to meet the new talent.
Whenever I'm in NYC, I'm reminded of how engaging this city is ALL the time. In fact, I'm on stimulus overload. Last night, I had the pleasure of witnessing The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time at the Barrymore Theatre. The last time I was in this theatre, I saw Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Death of a Salesman. I will never forget the performance he gave; It is one of my all-time favorite moments in a theatre. Since I had friends in this show, I got to go up on stage afterwards, and wow, what a breathtaking place to stand and look out from. So from NY to Portland - May your horizons be broad; there is so much life to experience!
