Above, you will see the gorgeous art we are using for THE OTHER PLACE by Sharr White, inspired by the vision of the girl in the yellow bikini that frequents main character Juliana's mind.
Here's a look behind-the-scenes at our photoshoot for THE OTHER PLACE:
First, we decided on a concept. Previous images we had seen in ad campaigns for THE OTHER PLACE included a close-up of Laurie Metcalf's face (who starred in the lead role on Broadway), and images of beaches and beach houses. We decided to focus on a visual throughline in the play, that of the girl in the yellow bikini. The image might seem disconnected from the description of the play and its main character (portrayed by the immensely talented Sharonlee Mclean in our PPH production), but once the play begins, the connection will become all too clear.
Second, we decide on a location. Trying to do a photoshoot in a body of water (even a pool) this time of year was deemed nearly impossible. We ended up driving to Sauvie Island to photograph Nikki Weaver (The Woman, portraying several roles in the show) in a bright yellow bikini in the wee hours of a cold February morning.
Third, the photographer (Molly Lucinda), subject (Nikki Weaver), and creative director (Marketing & Communications Manager Katie Watkins) head to the location to make the photograph a reality. When we arrived at one of Sauvie Island's beach locations, we set up our photographer on a ladder in the middle of the water, so that she could be high enough above Nikki to get a photo with water on all edges. Trickier than it seems!
Finally, we take the shot! Then, the photo gets edited, delivered to the designer and the final product is revealed.
